💰 how payments work at somos
‣
- teachers/course creators are independent sellers on somos and will need to set up stripe connect accounts to receive payments.
- when students buy a course:
- 85% (minus stripe’s payment processing fee) goes straight to you.
- 14% comes to us
- 1% goes to our impact fund.
- notable items under your control as a teacher:
- pricing for your courses.
- set your own refund policy on a course by course basis.
- create your own early bird promo codes/discounts.
- control your payout schedule from your stripe dashboard.
‣
- we want to ensure you get your money quickly + with limited processing fees.
- your share of the course payments goes straight to your stripe account and you can decide if you want to set your payouts to daily, weekly, monthly. somos never holds your money.
- we recommend holding the balance in your stripe account until your course starts in case you have to process any refunds for students.

- course creators will be able to invest in the business via targeted fundraising rounds and in addition, long-serving course creators will be eligible for our share/stock option scheme.
- we have recently partnered with ownco to make this a reality - check out the announcement.
- if you’re a teacher/course creator and would like to find more about how the scheme works, take a look at our co-ownership page.
